I am running Sourcemage Linux(I am one of the developers) and we use devfs mounted on /devices with symlinks from /dev. After I created a symlink from /dev/mass (the vg) that pointed to /devices/mass (the actual device) all was well. In case you need to stick with version 1, please take the recent 1.0.5 production version.
