Not sure what happened to you, it's indeed very strange.

It may be related to IPMI though. Please keep in mind that there is no
device access synchronization taking place between the native
monitoring driver (w83795) and IPMI, be it from the host or from a BMC.
So if you are using IPMI on this machine, the w83795 driver can't be
safely used. That could explain your problem.

If you aren't using IPMI then I just don't know, and if the problem has
gone meanwhile, I won't be able to help. In that case, feel free to
ping me again if the problem resurfaces.
