Thanks for the info provided by all in this thread. w83795.c compiled and installed (64bit) -- and combined with the appropriate new conf (based on X8SAX/C7X58 conf ) I now have meaningful temp and fan readings. Much appreciated. Till Ubuntu gets up to 2.6.37 I'll probably have to redo the process (beginning with recompile) with each new kernel, but that is fine. Thanks again.
