New chip driver development plan to Lm_sensors

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi MDS, Jean

This is chunhao.

After the discussion with my manager, I'd like to continue
the answer to your first two questions:
(1) The driver of w83792d can be released under GPL.
(2) The datasheet also can be released, but since the original
version has many bugs, such as the voltage calculation method is
very incomplete; it does not concern both the C version and B version
of 792 chip; and some register index errors.

It is being update now, I will send the new datasheet to you when
the update finished. It's said that it will be finished in several
weeks, I will send it to you as soon as possible when I get it.
Is that okay?

Thanks
Best Regards
Chunhao

Hi MDS

This is Chunhao, Thanks for your reply.

Quoting Mark D. Studebaker:
> Will your driver be released under the GPL?
My privy answer to this question is: I think our driver will
be released under the GPL. But since my manager is on business
now, I need his confirm about it. Only after that I can give
you the exact answer. I'm sorry for that.

> Would you please release the 792 datasheet to us so we may

I also think we can send you the 792 Datasheet, but this also
need my manager's permission, so please wait a few days about it,
I'm sorry for that. After I get my manager's permission, I will
send it to you immediately.

> Will your driver be for 2.4 or 2.6 kernels?
My driver is for 2.4 kernels. I'm using 2.4.20/Redhat 9 as my
development environment.

792D is a hardware monitor chip, not a Super I/O chip, so I am
using w83792d.c as a template for reference. But I write a new
driver w83792d.c instead of adding codes directly into w83781d.c

Thanks
Best Regards

Chunhao

thanks for the mail, sorry for the delay in response.

Will your driver be released under the GPL?

Would you please release the 792 datasheet to us so we may assist you?

Will your driver be for 2.4 or 2.6 kernels?

If the 792 is a Super I/O chip, I strongly recommend that you start from our
w83627hf.c driver rather than the w83781d.c driver. If it is i2c/isa,
the w83781d.c driver is the best place to start.

We will be happy to help you with any questions, please send them to the mailing list.
I will update the "New Drivers" page.
