Okay, now I can -- indivdually -- associate fine to both APs. And so I'll associate to one AP, sitting on my desk: 1257770236.175400: 0: 00:13:19:80:da:30 ssid='MNWPA' wpa_ie_len=24 rsn_ie_len=0 caps=0x11 1257770236.175463: selected based on WPA IE 1257770236.175502: selected WPA AP 00:13:19:80:da:30 ssid='MNWPA' 1257770236.175552: Automatic auth_alg selection: 0x1 1257770236.175604: WPA: using IEEE 802.11i/D3.0 1257770236.175644: WPA: Selected cipher suites: group 8 pairwise 8 key_mgmt 2 proto 1 ... 1257770236.189320: Associated to a new BSS: BSSID=00:13:19:80:da:30 Fine. Now I remove the antenna from this AP and do a "wpa_cli scan" command. That makes the signal of a farther positioned AP become larger. And yes, wpa_supplicant now selects this other AP: 1257770250.708767: RX ctrl_iface - hexdump_ascii(len=4): 53 43 41 4e SCAN ... 1257770251.247515: 0: 00:1b:d4:44:35:90 ssid='MNWPA' wpa_ie_len=24 rsn_ie_len=0 caps=0x11 1257770251.247565: selected based on WPA IE 1257770251.247603: selected WPA AP 00:1b:d4:44:35:90 ssid='MNWPA' 1257770251.247647: Automatic auth_alg selection: 0x1 1257770251.247692: WPA: using IEEE 802.11i/D3.0 1257770251.247731: WPA: Selected cipher suites: group 8 pairwise 8 key_mgmt 2 proto 1 ... And now the fun begins: wpa_supplicant/mac80211 can still authenticate, but no longer associate. Even worse, when I now run "iw wlan0 scan", I still see on "iw event" and on wpa_supplicant's output that a scan has been triggered, but the "iw wlan0 scan" command won't return, not even after 10 seconds (it should, the card is an 802.11b only card). And now wpa_supplicant starts to try to scan by itself every ten seconds ... it didn't do this before.
