What do you mean by "now"?
With the errors below, you'll surely not see wlan0 in ifconfig's ouput.

please make sure you you have iwlwifi-6000g2a-6.ucode
under /lib/firmware.
I can't really explain any regression between 3.10.17 and more recent
kernels.
