Issues with VIA USB 3.0 controller on PCI-3 1x card and linux 3.11.7

Here’s an excerpt of an email I sent to the manufacturer of the card below.

They weren’t much help.

The card doesn’t seem to be working, generates a lot of kernel spew, and doesn’t interact with “lsusb” (from usbtools-006 and -007, tried both).

Note that lsusb had several issues parsing the /sys files:

2 instances of "incomplete hub descriptor, 7 bytes”.

Also one of the 4 ports on the USB 3.0 hub says:

"   Port 2: 0000.0203 5Gbps power U0 enable connect”

but all of the others say "Port 4: 0000.02a0 5Gbps power Rx.Detect” (or Port x as appropriate)… not sure why one would be different. Nothing is plugged into any of them, and there should be a total of 7 ports, not 4.

Also saw "Couldn't open device, some information will be missing” but not sure for what device.

And saw "Couldn't get configuration descriptor 0, some information will be missing” twice.

Starting to look like the driver might be part of the issue.

It looks like the 2nd device is hub 8, but I’m only seeing a single port, and it’s showing up as High Speed only.
