Thats what happens with the pci card the usb dies then you have to
unplug plug back in the mouse to
get it to work. The keyboard keeps working fine usually with the pci usb card.

Well I did any way. When it dies or stops working the light on the
mouse stays on and the numlock
light stays on the kyb, but both stop excepting input. You cant
alt+tab, ctrl+alt+backspace, REISUB or even turn numlock off.
Both mice are optical mice.

I have only used the logitech keyboard, and ihome mouse to test. I can
switch the mouse and keyboard and try again.
