I am not sure for cross-platform because i haven't tried it in
cross-platform environment. But i will surely work in same OS
environment. Yes, you are right the server gets access of the clients
port or the device  plugged at the clients end.
Just make sure you are inserting the usb-vhci modules at the clients
end and the server end also, wiki has its information of its working
do follow the wiki of usb-vhci project. If any doubts do ask.

And one more thing, the driver is bit buggy so i do not recommend it
for commercial applications, check out the sourceforge site for latest
updates maybe the bugs must have been fixed. Anyways do try it out and
let me know.

Its ok about the English i am also bit rusty in english. :).
