I have a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard with similar problems. It uses the Etron EJ168 chips and there are USB 3.0 connectors on the rear panel. It also has a header on the motherboard to which I have connected a Y USB 3.0 cable then plugged in the USB lead that came with the case into the one socket of the Y. This then patches the cable to the top of the front of the case. I was having problems with this socket with the prolific USB bridge as well as a Samsung 2.5 inch USB 3.0 HD. When I switched to the rear panel connectors (much more direct) the samsung and the prolific kit both work. -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-usb" in the body of a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
