152d:0539 JMicron Technology USB -> eSata and sata port multiplier

Hi,

I have been trying for some time to get a JMicron USB/eSata adapter to work properly with a 4 drive Silicon Image based port multiplier enclosure without success. The port multiplier and drives work cleanly off a PCI Silicon Image eSata card using Debian Wheezy.

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 152d:0539 JMicron Technology Corp. / JMicron USA Technology Corp.

First attempt was with a stock Ubuntu 12.04 kernel, further attempts were with a 3.2.27 kernel with the patches here manually applied:

http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=132586396527466&w=2

My most recent tests have been with 3.6.0-rc6 (no patches)

In all cases I am getting the following kernel output trying to access any of the 4 drives (/dev/sdc - /dev/sdf):

[ 463.600972] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Unhandled error code
[ 463.600981] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc]
[ 463.600986] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[ 463.600992] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] CDB:
[ 463.600995] Read(10): 28 00 74 70 6d 70 00 00 08 00
[ 463.601016] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 1953525104
[ 463.601026] Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 244190638
[ 463.720092] usb 2-4: reset high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd

Please find the usbmon output (taken while trying to do an fdisk -l on each of the drives) and hopefully some other useful bits of information here:

Any suggestions, patches, etc are welcome, this system is a home system, and can be easily rebooted to try any fixes suggested.

-Harry
