I forgot to mention that I did  apply your patch to run set-serial for
cdc-acm  prior to collecting the debug - in the hope that it would
provide more info.
Anyway  - the openwrt  router does not have power management (it does
not go to sleep or hibernate).
is there anything else I could try ?
