That's odd.  A problem with ftdi_sio should affect only the program 
that's using the serial port; it shouldn't prevent anything else from 
running.  Likewise, a problem with the USB host controller hardware 
should affect only programs that are using USB devices.

Do you have any idea why the damage is so widespread?
