The same command > > with 1 in place of 0 is like replugging. I moved that cable to be plugged into a mobo port, reducing the hub in path count by one, getting this in dmesg: usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: input irq status -75 received usb 1-10: USB disconnect, address 7 usb 1-10.4: USB disconnect, address 11 usb 1-2.1: USB disconnect, address 20 usb 1-2.1.4: USB disconnect, address 21 usb 1-2.1.4.1: USB disconnect, address 25 usb 1-2.1.4.1.1: USB disconnect, address 26 btusb_bulk_complete: hci0 urb c3861180 failed to resubmit (19) btusb_bulk_complete: hci0 urb c3861980 failed to resubmit (19) usb 1-2.1.4.1.2: USB disconnect, address 27 usb 1-2.1.4.1.3: USB disconnect, address 28 btusb_intr_complete: hci0 urb c3861e00 failed to resubmit (19) btusb_send_frame: hci0 urb effa5100 submission failed usb 1-2.1.4.4: USB disconnect, address 22 usb 1-2.1.4.4.3: USB disconnect, address 23 ftdi_sio ttyUSB2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now disconnected from ttyUSB2 ftdi_sio 1-2.1.4.4.3:1.0: device disconnected usb 1-2.1.4.4.4: USB disconnect, address 24 usblp3: removed usb 2-10: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5 usb 2-10: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=3301 usb 2-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-10: Product: Standard USB Hub hub 2-10:1.0: USB hub found hub 2-10:1.0: 4 ports detected hub 2-10:1.0: config failed, can't get hub status (err -71) usb 2-10: reset full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5 usb 2-10: USB disconnect, address 5 usb 2-10: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 6 usb 2-10: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=3301 usb 2-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-10: Product: Standard USB Hub hub 2-10:1.0: USB hub found hub 2-10:1.0: 4 ports detected hub 2-10:1.0: config failed, can't get hub status (err -71) usb 2-10: reset full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 6 usb 2-10: USB disconnect, address 6 usb 2-10: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7 usb 2-10: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=3301 usb 2-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-10: Product: Standard USB Hub hub 2-10:1.0: USB hub found hub 2-10:1.0: 4 ports detected hub 2-10:1.0: config failed, can't get hub status (err -71) Then I tried the echo trick: [root@coyote host]# echo 0 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/2-10/bConfigurationValue -bash: echo: write error: Protocol error [root@coyote host]# echo 1 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/2-10/bConfigurationValue -bash: echo: write error: Protocol error ???? Unplugging it, and replugging it is more difficult, but here goes: I plugged it back into a more accessible breakout this time. still on the motherboard: usb 2-10: USB disconnect, address 10 usb 2-8: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 11 usb 2-8: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=3301 usb 2-8: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-8: Product: Standard USB Hub hub 2-8:1.0: USB hub found hub 2-8:1.0: 4 ports detected hub 2-8:1.0: config failed, can't get hub status (err -71) Apparently these cables need a powered hub to even think about working. On mobo power, no biscuit. So you are right, its a POS. New ones will be here in 3 or 4 days, amazingly, 1/5th the price I paid for these ($40 ea) about 4 years ago. As I have 2 of these, and the other is not in use, I'll try it in the meantime. No biscuit, bad dog, put them both on a powered hub and everything signs on about 20% of the time. Thanks for your patience, it is appreciated. Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
