Why can't you change your kernel?  What is preventing this?  Is it a
vendor-provided kernel?  If so, please work with them.

If you are relying on out-of-tree code, please work with the providers
of that to get it upstream.

And finally, you do realize just how old the 2.6.28 kernel is, right?

I think you just might be on your own here, unless you can reproduce the
problem on the 2.6.36 kernel.
