On Fedora 12, 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686, libusb-0.1.12-22. When I try to
connect to my shiny new Canon camera I get in syslog:

Dec 12 16:18:57 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 5
Dec 12 16:18:57 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device found,

Dec 12 16:19:27 daddy gnome-keyring-daemon[1488]: no volume registered
at: /root/.gvfs/gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005

That is what happens when I click open with gphoto in the open camera
dialog box.

If I don't click anything in the dialog box, I get:

Dec 12 16:29:28 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 7
Dec 12 16:29:29 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device found,

Dec 12 16:29:29 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1,
Product=2, SerialNumber=0
Dec 12 16:29:29 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: Product: Canon Digital Camera
Dec 12 16:29:29 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
Dec 12 16:29:29 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Dec 12 16:30:00 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 7
Dec 12 16:30:00 daddy gnome-keyring-daemon[1488]: mount_removed:
assertion `path' failed
Dec 12 16:30:00 daddy gnome-keyring-daemon[1488]: mount_removed:
assertion `path' failed

So in either case, the camera is disconnected in 30 seconds.

If I choose "Open in Folder", it stays up longer, but still dies
eventually (here after 9:30 minutes):

Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 8
Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device found,
idVendor=04a9, idProduct=31cf
Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1,
Product=2, SerialNumber=0
Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: Product: Canon Digital Camera
Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
Dec 12 16:34:44 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Dec 12 16:44:14 daddy kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 8
Dec 12 16:44:14 daddy gnome-keyring-daemon[1488]: mount_removed:
assertion `path' failed
Dec 12 16:44:14 daddy gnome-keyring-daemon[1488]: mount_removed:
assertion `path' failed

What I really want, in addition to staying connected, is for the card
in the camera to be mounted in some nice convenient place like
/media/camera. But I assume this takes me into the netherworld of
udev.
