Hi, We have built our own little PCB for the NEO-5Q u-blox chip, and when we plug the USB port into a pc with Windows XP or Ubuntu 9.04 it seems to be working perfectly. However we are trying to develop our system on Linux Debian 5.0.0 and when we plug in the USB device, we get a USB error. Below is some of the feedback I got when using Ubuntu vs Debian: in Ubuntu 9.04 it works fine: bml@blunsky-linux:/$ lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 005 Device 118: ID 1546:01a5 U-Blox AG Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub bml@blunsky-linux:/$ dmesg | grep usb [30393.332028] usb 5-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 118 [30393.495451] usb 5-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice the device appears as /dev/ttyACM0 but on my debian machine, it's just not working: root@KAT7:/dev# lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub and: [ 1780.228062] usb 2-1: device not accepting address 29, error -62 [ 2247.680059] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 30 [ 2247.860058] usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62 [ 2248.148059] usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62 [ 2248.428058] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 31 [ 2248.608055] usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62 [ 2248.892053] usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62 [ 2249.172058] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 32 [ 2249.580053] usb 2-1: device not accepting address 32, error -62 [ 2249.760113] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 33 [ 2250.168056] usb 2-1: device not accepting address 33, error -62 if i type cat /var/log/messages | grep usb: Aug 24 16:12:42 KAT7 kernel: [ 1640.040119] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 21 Aug 24 16:12:49 KAT7 kernel: [ 1646.372058] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 22 Aug 24 16:12:49 KAT7 kernel: [ 1647.120056] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 23 Aug 24 16:12:50 KAT7 kernel: [ 1647.864059] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 24 Aug 24 16:12:51 KAT7 kernel: [ 1648.452062] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 25 Aug 24 16:15:00 KAT7 kernel: [ 1777.740060] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 26 Aug 24 16:15:01 KAT7 kernel: [ 1778.488048] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 27 Aug 24 16:15:02 KAT7 kernel: [ 1779.232059] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 28 Aug 24 16:15:02 KAT7 kernel: [ 1779.820063] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 29 Aug 24 16:22:50 KAT7 kernel: [ 2247.680059] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 30 Aug 24 16:22:51 KAT7 kernel: [ 2248.428058] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 31 Aug 24 16:22:51 KAT7 kernel: [ 2249.172058] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 32 Aug 24 16:22:52 KAT7 kernel: [ 2249.760113] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 33 Apparently this device requires the cdc-acm module which it appears the Debian machine has. I am also not sure why the Ubuntu machine uses uhci_hcd but on Debian it uses ohci_hcd?
