Therefore, you either have a bad cable (there are many USB 2.0 cables with Type C connectors) or your motherboard/BIOS has some weird behavior. On the other hand, SuperSpeedPlus (10 Gb/s) does not work on ASM1142 in Linux, because of bugs in the XHCI driver.
