I'd also suggest you look through the patches I've posted.
Some of the changes would make the code much easier to read.

In the end we decided to use PCIe ethernet to get the extra connectivity
so didn't need to get the usb3 ethernet device working - but I did
have it working 100% reliably against an Intel host controller.
The Asmedia one has other issues.
