It's pretty hard to say without more information. For example, usbmon traces under 3.13 and 3.14 would be a good start. It might also help to see a kernel log with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG enabled. > or is this all nonsense? Instead of trying to backport patches, why not just upgrade the whole kernel?
