Error code -110 is -ETIMEDOUT.  I don't know why a command would time
out under one kernel but not another.

It's pretty hard to say without more information.  For example, usbmon 
traces under 3.13 and 3.14 would be a good start.  It might also help 
to see a kernel log with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG enabled.

Instead of trying to backport patches, why not just upgrade the whole 
kernel?
