USB disconnects on a 3G card (Thinkpad X230, Ericsson H5321)

I have the following hardware:

* Lenovo Thinkpad x230
* Ericsson H5321 gw WWAN card

Whilst the 3G card can connect, it's very unreliable. It

* drops out during use (a USB disconnection)
* is often not available after a suspend-to-RAM
* sometimes gives "Modem hangup" in pppd after ATDT command

The common and most reproducable is that the WWAN card likely does not
come back up after suspend-to-RAM.

See below for the dmesg on resume (see below, kernel 3.10.30). I feel it
could hold an explanation, as the 3G card is so noisy during this process.
Anything in the "add hid device: -71" error?

I also saw what appeared to be the same issues using a standard Fedora 20
boot USB as a test, which seemed to be using new cdc stuff instead of
pppd.

I've checked the hardware, and re-seated it. I can see others who appear
to be having similar problems

Is there any lead I can follow here?

Thanks in advance
