If I can get a useful kernel with this booting on Harmoney I (or one of
my colleagues) can look into this.

Not really.  You can register a platform device and kick of ASoC machine
registration from that, which is how it will look eventually, but right
now it's not so nice.

Given the free running nature of most audio hardware you will find a lot
of apps end up playing silence at the end of the stream anyway to cope
with the lack of sample perfect sync with the DMA which sidesteps issues
here .
