When I asked Jackie McBride who runs the midimag list hosted on freelists the problem back on February 29, she shared the below explanation. What happens is that a service states in the error email that it cannot find my hostname. Luke uses some odd thing that I believe is a part of comcast business, unless he has changed to another service. Here is the explanation. And no Pannex was far from accommodating when I considered using them a while back.

2nd, part of the problem is that Google, Yahoo, MS, Apple--indeed,
all the big email players--are, as of 24 Feb., rejecting emails that
don't have DMARC records associated w/their domains, & shellworld
fits into that category. Is Shellworld owned by Luke? If so, then u
should mention this to him, & I can also, as well as offering
assistance in setting up those records, if that would be something of
interest to him.

If the folks at Shellworld won't set up these email authentication
records, then I fear your only other alternative is to get another
email address from a provider that has these records in place. It
really is best practice. I personally have had them in place for all
my clients for quite a few years now. But, in an attempt to decrease
(& hopefully stop) the vast amounts of very costly phishing & spam
emails being sent, email providers have banded together & basically
said "if domains don't have records to prove their identity, we're
not sending their emails". That came into effect on Feb. 24.

What are these requirements that are missing in shellworld? Could we
configure a vps on panix.com to do the right thing and you would send
all your Email through that, or use the shell on that server? Their
web interface would work with lynx, I am not using lynx with it, but
it will work that way.
Contact me off list and we can talk by phone.

Hi folks,
seasoning my question this time is the fact that in March, most
major email pockets, Apple, Google, Yahoo, all started requiring
email addresses to carry an identifying code that matches the
actual host, you @you.com has a code insuring that the email is
coming from a place called you.com
Goal is to keep spam from using hosts as a cover.
Mailing list locations like freelist.org are requiring it too.
This matters, because for reasons that are unclear, Luke Davis
who owns shellworld, either cannot, I have heard his mom is ill,
or chooses not, to take the needed steps to properly insure
shellworld has these identifiers..and for me its becoming quite a
problem.
I have staff who use gmail, often sending content here so I can
use the Ubuntu Linux shell tools here for work..but they are not
getting through.
I cannot post to freelist locations, bookshare is hosted there
among other lists.
So, seeking an email solution to add to my addresses for places
like freelist and where associates can safely write me.
Do not want to abandon my shellworld address all together for
many reasons, just add a new one.

Happy to document the email requirement if of interest.
Any prospects?
thanks,
Karen
