I agree with this advice. However, getting both environments function with speech could prove to be a challenge on your hardware. Speech Dispatcher doesn't play with Speakup. There are other complications that may, or may not prove problematical. Your best bet might be Fenrir. My current solution is as follows: Speakup using espeak with the espeakup connector. Note this is the old espeak, not espeak-ng. Orca with Speech-Dispatcher using RH Voice. FYI: I'm on a fully updated Arch.
