I remember there used to be a way to use the pc speaker as a sound card. I seem to recall it was a kernel driver, but it could have been through alsa itself. A quick web search gives me a linux journal article from 1997, but nothing besides that. So, short of checking the config choices for a modern 4.x kernel, I don't know if this is still an option. Even if it is still an option, I suspect the speech wouldn't be very intelligible.
