Now, Speakup Cut-and-Past Is Broken?

Well, earlier this afternoon I tried a cut-and-paste of an entire 135line 
screen. 
However, not only did my tty1 become stuck, now while insert9 says either mark 
or cut, nothing is going in a buffer. Many years ago there was some oddity about 
longer cut-and-pastes, but it seemed fixed. I am running somewhere in kernel 
4.17
