Ok so I tried it again. I re-burned the cd and booted it on my dell laptop, and this time it worked perfectly. I got the system installed no problems. The only issue I am having at the moment, and I haven't tried to do any real debugging of the issue is that I updated /etc/default/brltty to have brltty start automatically. I ran update-initramfs -u And rebooted.
