Your impression is not correct, and I don't recall personally telling
you that this was so. It used to be the case that speakup would look
for a serial synthesizer on the first 4 serial ports, but it hasn't
been that way for a few years now.

As for your greater question, I'll let someone who has used the new
installer answer that, perhaps Samuel or someone else will do so.
