I'm guessing you didn't tell speakup to look for your dectalk on the second serial port. If that's correct, then there's no conflict, speakup simply tried to access your dectalk on the first serial port which is the default, and of course couldn't, since the dectalk wasn't there to be found. If you want to have speakup access your dectalk on the second serial port, you need to append speakup.ser=1 as a boot parameter after you specify speakup.synth=xxx. HTH.
