Ledger is double entry accounting but you don't have to balance the final item in a transaction. Like you have say, expense and assets; you can specify the amount on the expense side and leave asset blank. The asset entry would then be defaulted to the amount to make it balance. As for generating statements, the ledger command can be run with various options but to get any kind of nice looking report, you would have to filter the output with a script or something. I have never heard of sql-leger. I like SQL and databases and such so this other package might interest me. I like the emacs mode available with ledger. I would like to improve on the emacs mode some to really makeit shine.
