Thanks all for the help, speech works great at boot now, I leave the networking nightmare for tomorrow. Yeah, I have the same problem in Debian with it deleting the /dev/cdrom symlink all the time. Wish the twerps at Debian would leave well enough alone, since half the CLI programs still use the /dev/cdrom symlink by default. Michael
