Hi,
The controller would be considered a network controller independent of
whether a driver was loaded for it or not.  lspci doesn't know or care
about kernel drivers for devices.
For atheros, I believe you need the madwifi drivers.  (I've never used
one of their cards myself, so someone who has should feel free to
correct me.)  Anyway, I'd look into getting those since you have
ethernet working.
