Sorry, I've been away from e-mail for a couple of days. I've moved onto archlinux, but I remember Storm had some instructions of installing speakup on ubuntu. http://stormdragon.us/ I'm not sure if he's kept it up with the latest release, but since it's his distro of choice, he might know. hope that helps:-)
