It looks as though your installation works. If you get an executable file, chances are it did work properly. I'm not sure where the config file would be on a Mac system, since the directory structure is very much different from other Unix systems, so if your machine has a search feature, you may want to try looking for yasr.conf. Selecting your synthesizer is, as you say, a simple matter of removing the remark # character from the beginning of the line with its name and being sure that every other synthesizer's line does begin with the character.
