Yes, but you should still have Speakup working. You can still load modules from a read-only filesystem. I would definitely suggest burning a rescue CD. Does your /etc/fstab match your actual partition structure? I had a problem where udev would rearrange my drives and I would get that message even though my partitions were fine. Editing /etc/fstab fixed the problem. You could also try ^D to see if the system boots normally or enter the root password and try to load the Speakup synth module manually. I haven't used the installer for testing, so perhaps there's a bug somewhere. It worked great doing multiple installs of Lenny.
