The winkey/startmenu key is meant to act like the insert key on the numpad. so, for example, pressing the winkey, while typing the letter i, would read the current line. As far as I know, pressing winkey itself shouldn't lock it into that mode, unless you're hitting the letter z as well, which would lock it, until you press winkey+z again to unlock. This feature is very handy on laptop keyboards, where you might not have a numpad insert, or which might not be convenient to use if you do have it. > By the way, does anyone know how to automate speakupconf on > startup? I'll check the friggin logs, and if I can't find an answer there, I guess I'll puzzle through the script and see if I can't fix the damned thing to work on startup, rather than on a per-user basis. Maybe add the ability to specify the saved configuration file if it doesn't have the ability, so I can do something like: > > $ speakupconf load /etc/speakup.conf > > ...and put it in rc.local. I'm using speakupconf in my debian system's /etc/rc.local without problems, and it loads the settings just fine on startup as is.
