I really do not want to do this, because I know there are people out there using speechd-up, and it is also a good solution. The main difference between them is that espeakup is more like the ttsynth connector, and it is a light weight connector, mainly designed for live cds, embedded systems, etc. > So, how do I use it once I have installed it? Once it is installed, add it to the default runlevel by typing. rc-update add espeakup default as root. Once you make sure that the softsynth module is set up to load on boot, you should be fine from there. If you have any questions, let me know.
