I got the newest 2.6.24 kernel from kernel.org, unpacked it, did cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.24.3/drivers/arch and git clone http://linux-speakup.org/speakup.git and it downloaded it. I then did ./install /usr/src/linux-2.6.24.3 and that worked. When I did make menuconfig, however, it errored out and said it couldn't find kconfig in /usr/src/linux-2.6.24/drivers/arch/speakup or something like that. This also happened with 2.6.24. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Hubbs" <williamh@xxxxxxxxxx> To: "Speakup is a screen review system for Linux." <speakup at braille.uwo.ca> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 1:10 AM Subject: speakup on gentoo (was Patching the Gentoo 2.6.24 kernel) > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > Hi all, > > On Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 07:44:35PM -0700, Keith Hinton wrote: >> I was wondering after installing git and cloning the speakup >> git-repository, >> how to install it into the arch version of Gentoo-sources for 2.6.24? >> This >> will be my very first time getting that working. >> >> Thanks. >> >> (Note) I have never patched Speakup, (not even when it was in CVS.) > > This is good timing, because I am about to open a bug on gentoo, > asking our kernel maintainer to apply the source patch to the > gentoo-sources kernel so that we can build speakup on gentoo as modules > outside the kernel tree, similar to how the alsa drivers, for example, > are currently handled. > > For those who are curious, the patch to apply to the kernel to get > speakup to build this way is kernel-integration-2.6.24-source.patch. > > I will post an update to this list as soon as I know whether gentoo will > be able to support building speakup this way. > > Thanks, > > - --- > William Hubbs > gentoo accessibility team lead > williamh at gentoo.org > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- > Version: GnuPG v2.0.7 (GNU/Linux) > > iD8DBQFH7H29blQW9DDEZTgRAgFTAKCKPZHu9wL7DCitm+9UFPhJ3FZcuQCggo+h > Hg9YCdqa8V0v1JEi4cNwC9Q= > =ovKp > -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- > > _______________________________________________ > Speakup mailing list > Speakup at braille.uwo.ca > http://speech.braille.uwo.ca/mailman/listinfo/speakup
