Bug in grml?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a Speakup issue or a bug in grml. I'm using
grml 1.1rc1. It boots fine and software speech works as expected.
However, if I put speakup_synth=dectlk at the boot prompt, I get no
speech. It writes in the log that it couldn't find the synthesizer.
I've used other kernels and live CDs with this synth and had no
problems. After it boots, I can do:

echo dectlk >/proc/speakup/synth_name

It then finds the unit and works fine. I'm just tired of booting up
with software speech and having to switch it. I don't know if Speakup
is built as modules or not, but in the grml kernel package, it's not.
Since I don't hear many boot messages with software speech, I assume
that it's a module on the CD but I don't know. Is this a Speakup bug?
They are using a fairly current cvs version.
