can't find bind 9 log file

If you're running debian /var/log/daemon.log is what you're looking
for. If you're running some other distro, and you don't have that log
file, someone else will have to tell you where it is, or you'll have
to figure it out for yourself. If you want bind to log to a particular
directory/file, that info is in the bind docs.
