I usually go to a console by doing ctrl-alt-f1. Then I type shutdown -h now except I can't remember whether I have to use sudo or not. If just the plain command above doesn't work, do it as: sudo shutdown -h now The cd tray will eventually pop open; remove the cd and hit enter. You can also do this if you want to remove the cd and reboot your machine instead of turning it of, but you do -r instead of -h. There probably is a way to do this from within the gui too but using the console is what I'm used to doing so I haven't so far tried anything else. -- Cheryl "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
