Did my patch fail?

You don't mention what kernel version this is, other then your patch
output showing it is a 2.6.x kernel. If it's below 2.6.13, then I
think that's where your problem is coming from. You also seem to be
fetching the speakup patch as a debian package, in which case I have
no idea of what version of speakup that would give you, other then it
would most likely be a cvs release.
