-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Yes, speakup is part of the official gentoo distro as far as I remember, but I don't recall if it comes on the official gentoo iso, or if you need to get a separate iso with speakup on it. My opinion though is that gentoo is definitely not for the faint of heart, so no, I don't think it is easy or easier for a newby to use. Yes, installing software is fairly simple, but everything you install is compiled from source, there are no binary packages in gentoo, though it does support installing them if you built your own, or if someone gives you an already built binary package. Since all the sources you use are a part of portage, the gentoo repository, you are probably less likely to get compilation errors then by using official source tarballs, but you won't escape getting them I don't think, and are probably more likely to get them then if you were when installing binary packages from something like debian or fedora.
