help with install of debian and speakup!?

I've got an even simpler suggestion.  Try apt-get install mtools (once you 
have a good /etc/apt/sources.list and you can do things like mdir a: and 
mcopy a:\filename .
I have mtools installed on both my Fedora and Debian systems--it works 
great.
