It has to do with the way highlight tracking works. It looks at which menu item's background color appears least on the screen and speaks it. The problem is the menus in MC use black as the highlight color which isn't the least used color. To fix the problem go to options and then layout and turn off the hintbar. This should make it speak the correct menu item. When using Nano, cursor tracking is a better mode to use. Highlight tracking is made for programs like MC that use a certain background color to select items. Michael McDonald APH
