Not all lists do this, in which case, the reply automatically goes to the author of the message. In Linux, this problem is solved (at least in Mutt) bu using the "list reply" command, (upper-case L), if you wish to reply to the list rather than the author. I'm not sure about how Pine, which is another mailer used heavily here, handles this, but I'm sure there is a similar function.
