-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all. Remembering the previous discussions on this list about the difficulty of installing gnu/linux on a drive devoted entirely to ntfs, I thought this might be of interest to some. I recently found a package called ntfsprogs, <http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/>. This consists of a ntfs library, as well as a few ntfs tools. One of these tools is ntfsresize, which as its name suggests, can shrink, or enlarge ntfs file systems. Note that this tool doesn't do anything to the partition table, it only works on the file system itself. So, in order to shrink an ntfs partition, to make room on the drive for a linux partition, you need to first shrink the file system, and then shrink the partition with something like parted, and all of this is described in the ntfsresize man page. I haven't had to shrink a ntfs file system, but I have needed recently to enlarge a file system to take up all of a larger partition, which is what prompted me to look for such a tool in the first place, and ntfsresize enlarged the file system flawlessly, your mileage may very of course. So, while creating room on a hard disk fully occupied by an ntfs partition is still not a snap, it is nevertheless possible to do. Hope this is of some use to someone.
