I got the 1.0.8 libraries, oss package, and utilities. The libraries compiled and installed okay, and I did an ldconfig. Then the oss package went in okay, but the utils failed with error I mentioned. I guess I could turn off the kernel alsa support and begin with the drivers, then the rest of the chain.
