Well, you should figure it out, I think. Maybe rerun make install and monitor the messages. I'm willing to bet you need to add a path to /etc/ld.so.conf, probably /usr/local/lib. As a matter of fact, when I look at my portable that has speech-dispatcher, that's exactly where they are. So, if you find them there, add that path and rerun ldconfig.
