Gnopernicus messages

I actually tried the gdm aproach, however I didn't hear a beep from the pc speaker. It did complain initially that it couldn't run as the user 'gdm, however I fixed it by doing useradd -g gdm 
gdm. And I didn't see a directive that would cause it to beep/not beep in the configuration file. Is it supposed to do it by default or something?
